What is Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme) ?

The name of the project launched by the West Bengal government in 2021 under the inspiration of Mamata Banerjee is Lakshmi Bhandar. The government decided to take this project to make women between the ages of 25 and 60 financially independent and extend financial assistance. There are different allowances on the basis of general community and scheduled and backward classes. Currently, more than 2 crore women beneficiaries have been covered under this project.

Benefits of Lakshi Bhandar Scheme

Through this Lakshmi Bhandar scheme planned by the state government, all the beneficiaries of the general category and scheduled backward class women in the state receive financial assistance. When the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme was started in 2021, the financial allowance for the general category was Rs 500 per month and for the scheduled or backward classes, the monthly allowance was Rs 1000.

However, currently, i.e. in 2024, the amount of that allowance has been increased, meaning that general category women will currently receive 1,000 taka per family per month, and scheduled or backward class women will receive 1,200 taka as a monthly allowance per month.

Eligibility Criteria for Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme

To apply for the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme, an interested female applicant must have the following qualifications:

  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal for the last five years.
  • The age of the female applicant must be between a minimum of 25 years and a maximum of 60 years.
  • If there is at least one income tax–paying member in the applicant’s family, no woman from that family will be eligible to apply for this scheme.
  • Women belonging to the General category who own more than 2 hectares of land are not eligible to apply.
  • Women employed in Government departments, Government-controlled organizations, Panchayats, Municipalities, or Municipal Corporations are not eligible for this scheme.
  • Women who receive a monthly salary or pension are not eligible to apply.
  • The applicant must have her own individual bank account.
  • The beneficiary’s bank account must be linked with her Aadhaar number, and the government-provided assistance will be deposited directly into the woman’s bank account.

Who can apply for Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme?

  • Women whose age is between 25 and 60 years can avail the benefits of this scheme.
  • Women who have been permanent residents of the state for a long period are eligible.
  • The applicant must be registered under the Swasthyasathi Scheme. Only women who have a Swasthyasathi card can apply for Lakshmi Bhandar. The Swasthyasathi card registration number will be required while filling out the Lakshmi Bhandar form.

Who cannot apply for the Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme?

  • Women who are below 25 years or above 60 years of age cannot apply.
  • Two women from the same family cannot apply for this scheme.
  • If the husband or children of the applicant woman are government employees, she will not be eligible for the scheme.
  • If the applicant woman receives a monthly pension or any other allowance, she cannot apply.
  • If any rule is violated or any irregularity is found, the applicant will no longer be allowed to apply to this scheme.

Documents required to apply for Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme

Women who wish to apply must carry the following documents to their nearest Duare Sarkar Camp:

  • Applicant’s Identity Proof (Aadhaar Card or Voter ID Card)
  • Swasthyasathi Card registered in the applicant’s name
  • SC/ST Certificate, if available
  • A copy of the applicant’s bank passbook (the page must clearly show Account Number, IFSC Code, and MICR Code)
  • Applicant’s passport-size color photograph
  • Applicant’s valid phone number and a valid email address

How to apply for the Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme

Eligible women can apply both online and offline. Below are the detailed methods:


Offline Application Procedure

  • The applicant must visit the nearest Duare Sarkar Camp.
  • She will receive an application form with a unique active number.
  • The form must be filled out correctly and submitted to the camp along with the required documents.

Online Application Procedure

  • The applicant must have a stable internet connection.
  • The form can be downloaded from a cyber cafe or mobile phone.
  • To apply online, visit the official website link and download the form directly from the portal.
  • Take a printout of the form and fill it out carefully.
  • There is a designated space to affix the applicant’s passport-size color photo, which must be attached.
  • Attach all required documents and submit the completed form to the local Panchayat Office or Ward Office.
