What is the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme?
The West Bengal Government launched the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme to protect people from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities from financial hardship in their old age, ensuring that they do not fall behind economically.
Along with Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, persons with disabilities also receive pension benefits under this scheme. Through the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme, many poor people in the state are assured of financial security. Hence, the importance of this government scheme is immense for them.
How many and which schemes are included under the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme?
Under the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme, the West Bengal Government has included a total of three schemes:
- Manabik
- Taposili Bandhu
- Joy Johar
Who can receive pension under the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme?
- The applicant must be above 60 years of age.
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
- If an applicant is already receiving benefits under any other state government pension scheme, they will not be eligible to apply again for the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme.
- The applicant’s name must be included in the BPL (Below Poverty Line) list.
- Only residents belonging to backward classes can apply for the Joy Johar and Taposili Bandhu components of the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme.

Important aspects of the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme
- All residents of West Bengal can avail the benefits of this scheme.
- Through this scheme, economically backward Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families in West Bengal receive financial assistance and are able to overcome financial hardship.
- Applications for the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme can be submitted offline.
- For the convenience of applicants, a government online portal is available where all correct information related to the application process can be obtained and applications can be submitted accordingly.
- Beneficiaries under the Joy Johar scheme receive ₹1,000 per month.
- Beneficiaries under the Taposili Bandhu scheme receive ₹600 per month.
- After the application is submitted and approved, the monthly pension amount is directly transferred by the government to the beneficiary’s bank account. Therefore, having a personal bank account is mandatory.
- The state government has stated that nearly 21 lakh people will benefit from the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme.
- Persons with disabilities and widows in West Bengal can also apply under this scheme and receive pension benefits in their old age.
How many days after submitting the application does the applicant receive the money?
The government has not specified a fixed time limit for receiving the pension amount after submitting the application. However, after submission, the application undergoes a thorough verification process by the government. This includes verification of bank account details, Aadhaar details, residential details, income certificate, caste certificate, and other documents.
Once the verification process is successfully completed and the application is officially approved, the applicant becomes eligible for the pension, and the amount is then credited to their bank account.
