Ponam Smart Card: Since Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee came to power, she has carried out one public-oriented initiative after another, and those efforts are reflected in the various schemes we have received — such as Kanyashree, Rupashree, Yuvashree, Lakshmi Bhandar, Khadya Sathi, Swasthya Sathi, and so on.

A smart card is a type of electronic card. It can also be called a physical card because it contains an embedded integrated chip that acts as a security token—just like the metal or plastic chips we see in driving licences or credit cards.

What is the Pronam Smart Card?

The Pronam Smart Card is a scheme for senior citizens of the state. Many elderly people in our state suffer from loneliness. Family members often live abroad due to work, and these senior citizens have to continue their lives alone even in old age.

Many elderly individuals are unmarried and have no one to take care of them. Even in the twilight of their lives, they must fight their battles alone. To ensure their health and safety, Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched this smart card. All senior citizens aged above 60 years in West Bengal are eligible for this card.

This is a joint initiative of the State Government and Kolkata Police for the safety and security of senior citizens. Kolkata Police is taking the responsibility willingly. At times when elderly parents are considered a burden by family, the police stepping in to support them is undoubtedly a remarkable initiative.

Who Will Receive the Benefits of the Pronam Smart Card?

Not everyone in the state can apply for this card. Certain conditions must be met. Only senior citizens are eligible, meaning the applicant must be 60 years old or above. The conditions are:

• Must be an Indian citizen.
• In the case of husband and wife, both must be 60 years or older to apply.
• Unmarried elderly men or women aged 60 or above are also eligible.
• Applicants must be living alone — either as a couple alone or as an individual.
• The applicant must be a resident under one of the 48 police stations of Kolkata Police jurisdiction.

Senior citizens receive multiple benefits through this card. As people age, they face various health and safety challenges. With this card, they will receive:

How to Apply for the Pronam Smart Card

To apply for the card, you must visit your local police station. There, you need to collect the Pronam membership form, fill it out completely, and submit it at the nearest police station along with two colour passport-size photographs.

After submission, verification will be done. If the applicant is found eligible, the Pronam membership card will be issued.
