Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has introduced several schemes in West Bengal such as Lakshmi Bhandar, Yuvashree, Rupashree, Kanyashree, etc., through which common people are benefiting. At present, the Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme has gained immense popularity. Similarly, there is another scheme called the Sikshashree Scheme. This Sikshashree Scheme has been in operation since 2014.

This initiative by the Chief Minister aims to secure the future of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students. The Sikshashree Scheme is also known by several names such as West Bengal Sikshashree Scholarship Scheme, West Bengal Sikshashree Scheme, or West Bengal Scholarship Scheme for SC and ST Students.

পThe purpose of this Shikshashree Scheme of West Bengal is to provide financial assistance to the underprivileged sections of the state, that is, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, so that their children can continue their education properly. This scheme has mainly been launched for students from Class 5 to Class 8.

Benefits of the Shikshashree Scheme

The Shikshashree Scheme is known as a pre-matric scholarship, meaning only students studying from Class 5 to Class 8 will receive this scholarship.

Students will receive the money directly in their own bank accounts. This scheme transfers the amount directly to the student’s personal bank account.

Objectives of the Shikshashree Scheme

This project has been launched under the initiative of Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The primary aim behind this scheme is to promote education in the state’s schools and reduce school dropouts.

Eligibility Criteria for the Shikshashree Scheme

The following conditions must be met to apply:

  • Students must belong to the Scheduled Caste community.
  • Only permanent residents of West Bengal can apply for this scholarship.
  • The family’s annual income must be less than ₹2.5 lakh.
  • Students must be regular, full-time students of any government, government-aided, or government-recognized school in West Bengal.
  • A student cannot receive more than one scholarship. If they are receiving any other scholarship, that amount must be returned.
  • A student will receive the scholarship only once for any class. If they repeat the same class, they will not receive the scholarship the second year. They will receive it again only after being promoted.
  • Students must have good behavior and maintain proper attendance in school.

Only Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students who are permanent residents of West Bengal can apply for this scholarship.

  • Students residing in hostels.
  • Students whose parents are employed in government offices.

Offline Application Process:

Students can apply directly through their school using the specified form. After submission, the school handles the process.

Scholarship Amount:

Regardless of class, each student receives an annual scholarship of ₹800.

Online Application Process:

  • Forms are available on the government’s official website.
  • Caste certificate is mandatory during registration.
  • First, login to the portal.
  • The applicant ID and password will be sent by the OASIS portal.
  • Login using the credentials and fill out the online application form.
  • Upload all required documents.
  • Submit the form, download the acknowledgment slip, and print it.

After online submission:

  • Students in rural areas must submit the printed application to the Block Development Office.
  • Students in municipal areas must submit it to the District Welfare Officer’s office.

The authorities will verify all documents and eligibility. Once approved, the scholarship amount will be transferred directly to the student’s bank account.
